Songs of Exile, Multi-Screen Video Installation, Ottawa, Canada, 2023.

Production Saw Art Center, Beirut Art Residency, and the French Embassy of Ottawa. Postproduction: Sirine Fattouh.

Songs of Exile is a twelve-screen video installation.

Twelve individuals, long-time residents of Ottawa from different countries, are invited to sing a song that relates to their country of origin in the language of their choice. Each participant is filmed alone against a green background, facing the camera. No music accompanies the performance. Only the voice remains.

The songs unfold without interruption, carried by breath, hesitation, and variation. The absence of context isolates each voice, creating a space where memory is conveyed through sound rather than narrative.
